Terms and Conditions

DRIVING LESSONS

  • Driving lessons are only available if
    • You are aged 17 or over, or aged 16 or over and receive the higher rate of Disability Living Allowance (mobility component); and
    • You hold a valid UK provisional driving licence; and
    • You are legally entitled to drive in the UK.
  • You must provide proof you have a valid licence to drive and a licence check code before the commencement of your first booked driving lesson. If you fail to provide this, the instructor will refuse to conduct any lessons and you may still be charged for any lessons pre-booked.
  • It is the Instructors objective to teach the Learner the correct driving skills according to the recommended syllabus issued by the DVSA within the minimum number of driving lessons required. The Instructor is not just here to teach the Learner to “pass the test.” Future road safety is paramount.
  • At times, it might be required for the Instructor to take control of the vehicle by using the dual controls or taking the steering wheel. This may result in shock or distress or a quick stop. The reason for the Instructor taking control will be clearly explained before control is given back to the Learner.
  • The Instructor will accept no liability for accidents, injury or damage to any Third Party caused by the Learner’s recklessness or negligence during a lesson.
  • The Instructor will make every effort to instruct the Learner to the highest standard and in accordance with the syllabus issued by the DVSA, but can in no way be held liable for any errors that the Learner may make whilst driving unaccompanied by the Instructor, either before or after passing the driving test.
  • The Learner must provide details requested by the insurance company and/or Police in the event of an accident.

EYESIGHT & HEALTH CONDITIONS

  • The Learner must pass the DVSA eyesight check before starting their driving lessons. The Instructor is required to cancel driving lessons should the Learner fail this assessment.
  • You must be able to read a number plate from a distance of:
    • 20.5 metres for car number plates made before 1 September 2001
    • 20 metres for a car number plate made after 1 September 2001
  • If the Learner wears glasses, they must inform the Instructor before commencing lessons and bring to every lesson. The driving lesson will not go ahead if glasses are not brought to the lesson and the Learner may be still be charged for the lesson.
  • If the Learner has a pre-existing health condition that may affect their driving or driving lessons, they must inform the DVSA and the Instructor before lessons commence.
  • If the Learner’s health changes during the course of learning to drive, it is the responsibility of the Learner to advise the DVSA and the Instructor as soon as possible.
  • If the Learner carries a medical card, bracelet or medication that is needed in the event of an emergency, the Learner must inform the Instructor of this and where to find the needed information and/or medication.
  • The Learner can be fined up to £1,000 if the DVLA is not informed about a medical condition that affects your driving. Click here to check if you need to advise the DVLA and therefore the Instructor.

REFUSAL OF LESSONS

  • The Instructor will refuse lessons if the Learner does not have the correct licence; loses their licence or is disqualified.
  • The Instructor will refuse to proceed with a driving lesson if they have reason to believe that the Learner is in any way under the influence of drink or drugs. The Learner will be charged the full price of the lesson and future lessons will only continue at the Instructor’s discretion.
  • Both the Instructor and the Learner have the right to feel safe when on lesson. Threatening or inappropriate behaviour from the Learner will not be tolerated and the lesson will be cancelled. The Learner will be charged the full price of the lesson and future lesson lessons will only continue at the Instructor’s discretion.
  • If the Learner fails to make payment for a lesson or a cancelled lesson, future lessons will be on hold and will only continue at the discretion of the Instructor. If you have a driving test booked, this will be cancelled and the money owed for the lesson will be deducted from this and the remainder will be returned to you. Late or no payment will not be tolerated.

TIME KEEPING & CAR ISSUES

  • If for any reason outside the Instructor’s control (i.e. Traffic) it is not possible to deliver the full duration of a driving lesson, any lost time will be made up. This might not be possible for that lesson but time owed will be noted by the Instructor and added to a future lesson. The Learner will be made aware of any delay as soon as possible by text.
  • If the Learner is late to a lesson, this time will still be charged and not added to a future lesson unless the Instructor has been advised of the delay beforehand.
  • The Instructor reserves the right to rearrange lessons at short notice in the event of mechanical breakdown, traffic, flat tyre or other difficulty outside their control. The Learner will be advised at the earliest opportunity and the lesson will be arranged ASAP.

THE DRIVING TEST

  • All driving tests must be booked after consultation with the Instructor. The Instructor has the right to refuse use of the tuition vehicle for test and will not be liable for any cancellation fees if the Learner has not previously discussed booking it with the Instructor.
  • Once a test date has been booked, the Instructor has the right to refuse to take the Learner to test or advise moving the test date, if the Learner is not ready. If the Learner does not take this advice, the Instructor has the right to refuse the car for test and is not liable for any cancellation fees.
  • The Learner is required to pay the Instructor for use of the tuition vehicle before, during and after test on the day, as well as the price of the test which is paid directly to the DVSA.
  • With the consent of the Learner, the Instructor will take a picture of the Learner and post about their success on christieleedriving.com and the Christie Lee Driving Facebook page. The Learner has the right to request this be taken down at any time and the Learner will be shown the image and asked permission before posting.

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Where possible, the Learner must provide the Instructor with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to cancel a driving lesson. Should the Learner fail to give adequate notice, the Learner may be charged the full price of the lesson.
  • It is understood that 24 hours’ notice is not always possible when it comes to illness, childcare and other issues, so please contact the Instructor as soon as possible. In extenuating circumstances, charging for the cancelled lesson is at the discretion of the Instructor.
  • If there is a period of late notice cancellations from the Learner with no reason given, the Instructor has the right to refuse lessons and cease teaching. If the Learner has paid in advance, any monies owed for cancelled lessons will be deducted from this.
  • If the Learner fails to make payment for a lesson or a cancelled lesson, future lessons will be on hold and will only continue at the discretion of the Instructor. If prompt payment is not received, lessons will cease to continue. If you have a driving test booked via Christie Lee Driving, this will be cancelled and the money owed for the lesson will be deducted from this and the remainder will be returned to you. Late or no payment will not be tolerated.

  • The tuition vehicle is fitted with dual controls. At times, it might be required for the Instructor to take control of the vehicle by using the dual controls or taking the steering wheel. THE INSTRUCTOR

  • This licence is subject to a police DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check to ensure the Instructor has no criminal convictions.

  • The Instructor currently holds a Grade A from a Standards Check carried out in York on 15.11.2018.
